• Terrain: mostly rugged mountains; plains in north and southwest
• Languages: Afghan Persian or Dari (official) 50%, Pashto (official) 35%

• Maternal Mortality Rate: 460 deaths/ 100,000 live births
• Infant Mortality Rate: 121.63 deaths/ 1,000 live births
